DESCRIPTION:Dear colleagues and friends\,\n\nNext July 25 (Monday) Instituto de Medicina Molecular João Lobo Antunes and the EpiEpiNet project in partnership with the Liga Portuguesa contra a epilepsia will receive the visit of the prestigious neuroscientist Dr. Phil Haydon at iMM.\n\nHe will give a talk at the Auditorium 52 (-1 floor)\, Edifício Egas Mo\nniz\, Hospital de Santa Maria at 16:00 entitled “Glial Support Cells and their role to suppress seizures”\n& “Sail for Epilepsy”.\n\nPhil Haydon is chair of the Department of Neurosciences at Tufts University School of Medicine\, in Boston andhis research group studies a range of neurological disorders\, including epilepsy.\nSome of his published studies have led to innovation in neurosciences\, demonstrating that glial cells are active participants in brain signaling in health and disease.\nFurthermore\, Phil has started the non-profit organization Sail For Epilepsy with a mission to inspire people with epilepsy to take One More Step towards achieving a fuller life.\nFor that\, Phil and the Sail For Epilepsy team are crossing the Atlantic in a sailing boat.\nDuring their stay in Lisbon they will tell us more about their adventure as well as Phil’s research!\n\nThe Talk will be followed by a Get Together at 17:15 at the iMM terrace with snacks and drinks available at the iMM terrace. He is professor at Aarhus University Hospital\, and he is the head of the Clinical Neurophysiology Departament at the Danish Epilepsy Centre. He is the chair of the joint EEG taskforce of the IFCN and ILAE\, member of the ILAE comission on diagnostic methods\, ILAE education council and the executive committee of ILAE-Europe. He is editor-in-chief of Epileptic Disorders. The main research interest of Prof. Beniczky is EEG and epilepsy\, focusing on electromagnetic source imaging\, seizures detection\, standardisation and quality-assurance in clinical neurophysiology. He has supervised 10 PhD students. He is author of 169 peer-reviwed papers and 22 book chapters.

DESCRIPTION:Digital event\n20 – 22 May 2021\n\n\nColloquium website \nIn light of the uncertain months ahead\, the 13th International Epilepsy Colloquium will transition to a digital event in May 20-22\, 2021. \nToday\, more than ever\, the goal of this colloquium is to bring together worldwide leaders involved in epilepsy to discuss new results\, candidate therapeutics\, and methodological issues. \nWe are confident that this is the best option to enable us to deliver a high-level scientific program in a safe environment and to allow for maximum participation. \nThe 2021 conference will discuss all aspects of the early onset childhood epilepsies\, including diagnostics\, treatments\, as well as outcomes. \n\nEminent experts in the field\, mainly from the US and from the European Reference Network centres EpiCARE\, will treat all aspects related to rare and complex epilepsies.\nChallenges related to diagnostics\, management and treatment decisions will be on the forefront.\nAn opening lecture will reflect on where we have come\, and closing we will reflect on where we are going.\n\nWe hope that you can join us virtually in May 2021 and in person for the next colloquia\, \nPr.
